Climate protection measures

Climate-friendly cultural enterprises

This investment was made possible by funding from the Climate-Fit Cultural Enterprises program, supported by the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport and financed by the European Union NextGenerationEU.

The aim of the Klimafitte Kulturbetriebe programme is to promote the greening of the arts and cultural sector and to promote sustainability in the arts and cultural sector. The measures are intended to help reduce CO2 emissions in the arts and cultural sector and establish cultural institutions as high-profile role models for climate protection measures.

We are delighted to have taken a further step towards the sustainable reduction of CO2 emissions with the measures we have implemented!

In the interests of sustainability and improving energy efficiency, the following measures were implemented in accordance with Schallaburg Kulturbetriebsges.m.b.H.'s sustainability concept:

  • Conversion of the lighting in the exhibition area from halogen to LED
  • Conversion of the parking lot lighting to LED
  • Implementation of a control system to partially automate and increase the efficiency of the lighting and heating of our event rooms

These measures have resulted in a 75% reduction in energy consumption for lighting and around 60% for heating. This means a saving of more than 40,000 kWh/a of electricity and therefore a good 25 tons of CO2 emissions per year!

To generate its own electricity and additionally avoid CO2 emissions, a further development and realisation step ...

  • the construction of a ground-mounted photovoltaic system with a module output of 242kWp was realised.

This system can generate around 270,000kWh/a of electrical energy. This corresponds to avoided CO2 emissions of around 130 tonnes per year.

As the main use of the rooms at Schallaburg takes place from April to October and during the day, a large proportion of the electrical energy required is covered by the photovoltaic system. Surplus energy is fed into the public grid or into an energy community for the benefit of other cultural organisations.
